HELPING THE BELGIAN SOLAR CAR LOOK AND PERFORM ITS BEST

As a Silver Partner, we’ve been working with the Agoria Solar Team on its entry for the 2019 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia. The car - BluePoint - was painted at our Cromax Training Centre in Mechelen, Belgium.

The 2019 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge from the 13 to 20 October 2019 will mark the eighth consecutive year the University of Leuven has had a student team take part in the event. Solar challenges are about being as fast and as efficient as possible, which is exactly how we like to work, so our partnership is very successful and a perfect match.

Kevin Torfs, Cromax Brand Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) says, “The Team is incredibly ambitious, passionate and driven, and those are values we share with them.”

BluePoint, which was designed and manufactured by the Team, was brought into the CTC for painting the first week of June. The students wanted the products and processes used to be aligned perfectly with their sustainability goals. Our Ultra Performance Energy System – which makes use of maximum energy- and material-saving products - was the obvious choice.

The car body was painted in solid white with two shades of blue that we developed specially to match the corporate colours of the main sponsor Agoria. If you like the look of any of these colours, you can find the formulas in ChromaWeb.

PS1081 Ultra Performance Energy Surfacer in white (VS1) was applied first and then the activated Cromax Pro Basecoat colours. The decal logos of Cromax and other sponsors were then applied. Finally, CC6700 Ultra Performance Energy Clear was applied in three passes with intermediate sanding, which ensured the decals would be completely smooth, helping to safeguard BluePoint’s aerodynamics. Our logo will also appear on the Team’s clothing, support convoy and publicity material.

Torfs adds, “The Team wants to do even better than the third place its predecessor got in 2017, so it is going for the win this year! Everyone at Cromax will be following BluePoint’s progress and cheering them on!”
