CROMAX AND ACADEMIC MOTORSPORTS ASSOCIATION OF ZURICH (AMZ) - A WINNING FORMULA IN THE EV CLASS 2018 FORMULA STUDENT SEASON!
AMZ kicked off its 2018 Formula Student season this July in Holland, where eiger, the AMZ team’s electric-powered car painted with Cromax products, won its first overall event.
Formula Student is an internationally recognised motorsports competition specifically developed for students from universities around the world. The competition comprises of a number of international events over the summer, and AMZ took part in four. At each event, the cars score points for design, endurance, acceleration and efficiency. We couldn’t have been happier that eiger won the first event of the season in Holland with a total of 953 points - 18 points ahead of its German rival from Dresden.
The team then participated in events in Austria, Germany – in Hockenheim, where AMZ received its best result with a win for eiger in the electric car category and a win for gotthard, the team’s entry in the driverless category - and finally Spain. By the end of the season AMZ had proven what a great team of designers it has, after winning the Engineering Design award in the Electric category at all four events. But eiger also received the Best Technology Innovation Award for 2018 at the Awards Ceremony on 26 August.
A little help from Cromax
Earlier this year some of the 65 students who make up the AMZ team went to watch our experts at our Axalta Training Centre in Pratteln, Switzerland. We helped the students prepare the vehicle, took them through the process of coating and priming the carbon fibre reinforced plastic chassis and then we painted it for them. And there really was only one choice when it came to colour - Axalta’s 2018 Automotive Color of the Year StarLite, a white pearl, and a special red pearl effect colour.
If you want to see how eiger got its colours, you can watch the video here: www.cromax.com/eu/amzracing.
The future looks bright
“This was a wonderful season and although we are already looking to 2019, we can be happy with what we have achieved this year,” said Nirushan Arumugam, CEO of AMZ Racing and an engineering student. “Each year we build on our experiences to improve design, performance and efficiency. And we look to partners like Cromax, who shares our ethos for innovation and dynamism, to help us improve our results. It's a team effort and we thank Cromax for its support.”
