CROMAX AND AMZ RACING - TOGETHER AGAIN!

You may remember last year we told you about a successful new partnership that we’d established in Switzerland. Well, we’re happy to let you know that we are, once again, sponsoring AMZ (Academic Motorsport Association of Zurich) Racing, who takes part in the Formula Student eRacing competition. 2018 was highly successful for AMZ Racing who gained a double victory at Hockenheim, Germany, and secured first place on the Formula Student Electric World Ranking. And it’s easy to see why our cooperation works so well through our shared values of innovation and dynamism.

In the last eight months, the students have developed a new car named mythen in keeping with the theme of calling them after Swiss mountains. The team’s clear goal is to stay in the world ranking of the world's top 180 competitors.

With a little help from our technical experts in Switzerland, the students have developed another attractive design without jeopardising vehicle performance. The prototype yields a maximum output of over 200hp and is lighter, weighing less than 160kg, which is something that we needed to take into account when the car was bought into our Training Centre in Pratteln for preparing and painting. Clint Kaufmann, our Technical Chief for Switzerland, and Fabio De Giorgi, our Application Technician for Switzerland, were our leads in the country and ensured everything happened as productively as possible.

The very first job was to sand and clean the carbon fibre chassis. The team loved the colours we used so much last year, they decided to use them again. We applied Axalta’s 2018 Automotive Color of the Year StarLite, a white pearl, as well as a special red pearl effect colour to give mythen its striking appearance.  The final step was our CC6500 High Performance VOC Clearcoat. Mythen looked incredibly sharp when it was finally unveiled on 20 May 2019 at the BMW Group Brand Experience Centre in Dielsdorf, Switzerland, ready for the Formula Student racing calendar, which starts in July 2019.

Kevin Torfs, our EMEA brand manager, says, "It’s exciting to see projects like this being realised and to see the next generation of students so enthusiastic and passionate about their work. We wish them the best of luck for the 2019 season.”
