27 January 2021 – Axalta (NYSE: AXTA), a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, recently renewed its contract with the Agoria Solar Team, a team of Belgium engineering students from the Catholic University of Leuven. As part of the two-year Silver Partner agreement, Cromax®, one of Axalta’s premium refinish brands, will be used to paint a specially designed solar car, which will be entered into the 2021 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Experts from Axalta will also support the student team with technical expertise and guidance. The Cromax logo will appear on the car, the team’s collateral, clothing and on team support vehicles.

Olaf Adamek, Axalta Refinish Brand Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa says, “For the past six years, we’ve cultivated a highly successful relationship with this ambitious and productive student team that culminated in it winning both the Challenger Class of the biennial 2019 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and the 2020 iLumen European Solar Challenge. We’re delighted to support the team in its quest to win more titles and we look forward to welcoming the students back to our Cromax Training Centre in Mechelen.”

Ruben Holsbeeckx, Business Relations for the Agoria Solar Team, says, “It was an easy decision to partner with Axalta again. Our shared values of innovation and teamwork, coupled with a keen focus on sustainable practices, will ensure we develop a highly efficient solar vehicle. We know it will look fantastic during the World Solar Challenge race in October in Australia.”

The longstanding partnership with the Agoria Solar Team affirms Axalta’s commitment to support active participation in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects as part of its Bright Futures programme.

Adamek concludes, “At Axalta, we’re passionate about nurturing future talent of all kinds, and we always encourage the next generation of young professionals to push the boundaries with technology and innovation.”
